Tens of thousands gathered in Kothamangalam on Friday to pay their last respects to Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, the Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Church, who passed away at 95. After a prolonged illness, the respected spiritual leader died on Thursday evening, October 31, 2024, at a private hospital in Kochi, marking the end of an era for the Jacobite Syrian Christian community.
The funeral procession was filled with grief and reverence, as followers, clergy, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond arrived to honour the memory of a beloved leader. Known for his humility, dedication, and service to his faith and community, Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I was a spiritual figure whose influence extended far beyond Kerala.
The Catholicos’ funeral was held with traditional rites, reflecting the customs of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church.
His passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of his followers, who remembered him as a guiding light and an embodiment of compassion.
