The East London Malayalee community is mourning the loss of Muhammed Ibrahim, fondly known as ‘Uncle’ or ‘Kochu Uncle’, a beloved chef and former culinary force behind Thattukada, a popular Malayalee restaurant in East Ham. Muhammed Ibrahim passed away while visiting his native Kerala.

A native of Valapattanam in Kannur, Ibrahim was highly respected for his exceptional culinary talent and his generous spirit. Born and raised in Mumbai, his journey as a chef took him across North India, Dubai, and eventually to Britain, where he became a cherished figure among London’s Malayalee community.

Known for his mastery of Kerala’s traditional cuisine, Ibrahim played a pivotal role in making Thattukada a favorite dining destination for Malayalees in East London. His dishes were not only a treat for the palate but also a source of comfort and connection for the diaspora.

Thattukada posted on Facebook: “As the founder and chef of Thattukada, he was a true pioneer in bringing the authentic flavors of Kerala to the United Kingdom, starting with his beloved establishment in East Ham, London. His passion for food, dedication to excellence, and warm, welcoming spirit touched the hearts of so many. He leaves behind a legacy of delicious memories and an enduring influence on the culinary landscape. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Uncle. Your contribution will never be forgotten.”

During the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ibrahim’s compassion shone brightly. He tirelessly prepared hundreds of free meals for those in need, including Malayalees, Indian students, and others in East Ham and beyond, earning him admiration as a true humanitarian.

His contributions extended beyond the kitchen, as he worked alongside philanthropists to ensure that no one in the community went hungry during the crisis.

The news of Ibrahim’s passing has left the Malayalee community in the UK heartbroken. His culinary expertise, selflessness, and warm personality will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection.

Muhammed Ibrahim’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and dedication to his craft. His absence will be profoundly felt, but his impact on the community will live through.
