The festive spirit was in full swing as family and friends of Malayalee James Saviour joined the local community for his annual Christmas Light Switch-On ceremony at his residence in Sunnyside Close. Once again, James brought his home to life with a dazzling display of holiday lights and decorations, creating an atmosphere of joy and generosity on Saturday evening.
The event, which has become a cherished tradition since 2013, saw Reverend Fr. Austin leading the ceremony alongside Test Valley Mayor Councillor Ian Jeffrey, Lady Mayoress Maura, local councillors, members of the Andover Rotary Club, and representatives of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Beginning at 5:30 PM, the evening marked another year of James’ heartfelt commitment to spreading festive cheer. Inspired by his Malayalee heritage that values community and unity, James has made it his mission to light up the neighborhood every year, with the exception of 2022 and the Covid-19 pandemic years.
In addition to bringing joy to the community, the event also raised £177 for the Charlton Village Community Hub project and supported eco-friendly environmental initiatives through the Andover Rotary Club.
Reflecting on the success of the event, James Saviour shared, “Since 2013, we’ve aimed to bring the community together with this event. Being Malayalee, the tradition of celebrating togetherness and spreading joy is close to my heart. The public’s appreciation keeps me motivated to continue this tradition, especially during these challenging times.”
The Andover Advertiser highlighted James’ passion, quoting him as saying, “The event gets a lot of appreciation from the public, which encourages me to put on a spectacle for those attending, particularly in the expensive times we find ourselves living in.”
With its stunning lights, vibrant community spirit, and meaningful charitable contributions, the Christmas Light Switch-On at Sunnyside Close continues to grow as a beloved tradition in Andover.
