Kerala Gears Up for Five-Day International Paragliding Competition in Vagamon

The scenic hill station of Vagamon in Kerala is set to host a five-day paragliding competition starting March 19. Eighty-six participants from 11 countries will take part in the International Top Landing Accuracy Cup across six categories as part of the prestigious International Paragliding Festival at Kolahalamedu.

Kolahalamedu, located seven kilometers from Vagamon in Idukki district, is renowned as one of the best paragliding spots in India. Positioned at an altitude of 3,000 feet, the area provides ideal conditions for take-offs and landings, complemented by a cool climate, tea plantations, lush grasslands, and wooded landscapes.

Organised by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the State Tourism Department in collaboration with Orange Life Paragliding School, the event offers a total prize pool of Rs. 1.5 lakh for the first-place winners in each category, Rs. 1 lakh for second place, and Rs. 50,000 for third place.

The competition, running from March 19 to 23 at the Vagamon Adventure Park, enjoys official recognition from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world governing body for airsports. Technical support is being provided by the FAI and the Aero Club of India, with local coordination handled by Fly Vagamon.

Participants will compete in six categories: Paragliding Accuracy (Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Women), Paragliding Accuracy (Team), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Women), and Paragliding Accuracy (Junior).

With the stage set for an exciting showdown in the skies, the International Paragliding Festival in Vagamon is expected to be a major attraction for adventure sports enthusiasts and tourists alike.
