T. Haridas Remembered at Emotional Memorial in Croydon

The Malayalee community in the UK gathered to pay tribute to the late T. Haridas (Hariyettan), a respected businessman, former Indian Embassy official, and former national convener of OICC (UK), at his fourth annual memorial service. The heartfelt event, titled ‘ഓര്‍മകളില്‍ ഹരിയേട്ടന്‍ ‘ (Hariyettan in Memories), took place at the KCWA Trust Hall in Croydon on Saturday 22nd March.

Family members, close friends, and well-wishers organised the commemoration to honour the legacy of Hariyettan, who left a lasting impact on the community.

His children attended the emotionally charged ceremony, which saw the participation of prominent Malayalee personalities from across the UK.

The service began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and a floral tribute before Hariyettan’s portrait, symbolising the deep respect and admiration he continues to inspire. Attendees shared personal memories and experiences, shedding new light on his contributions and influence.

Event coordinators George Jacob and Thomas Philip ensured a seamless gathering, while Babykutty George played a key role in making the memorial a resounding success.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Hariyettan’s children, a touching moment that moved many in attendance.

As a tribute to Hariyettan’s passion for food, a traditional vegetarian feast was served, celebrating his lifelong passion for Kerala cuisine. Known for his entrepreneurial achievements, Hariyettan was the Chairman of Kerala Group of Restaurants, with the flagship establishment Malabar Junction.

The annual memorial once again emphasised the profound mark Hariyettan left on the community, ensuring that his legacy continues to be celebrated and remembered for years to come.
