The search for Malayalee student Santra Saju, who had gone missing in Scotland, has come to a tragic end. On Friday, December 27, 2024, around 11:55 am, police discovered a body in the water near Newbridge.
While formal identification is yet to be completed, Police Scotland has informed the family of Santra Saju, a 22-year-old from Perumbavoor, Kerala. Santra had come to Scotland to pursue her studies at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Santra was last seen three weeks ago at the Asda store in Almondvale, Livingston. Her family described her disappearance as “very out of character,” prompting widespread appeals by the police and her loved ones to locate her. Unfortunately, the discovery of her body has brought the search to a tragic conclusion.
Police Scotland has confirmed that her death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, which is standard protocol for sudden deaths in Scotland.
Santra’s passing has deeply saddened the Malayalee community and the students and staff at Heriot-Watt University. She was a young talent who had come to Scotland with dreams of a bright future.
