Kerala experienced heavy rainfall due to the influence of Cyclone Fengal, which caused extensive devastation across Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry after making landfall on December 1, 2024.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple orange and yellow alerts across districts in Kerala, signaling the potential for severe weather. Regions like Idukki, Malappuram, and Kozhikode.
The cyclone has intensified the delayed rainfall, posing risks of flooding and landslides. Residents were advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel as Kerala braces for more turbulent weather​
State Revenue Minister K. Rajan has urged residents, especially in northern Kerala, to remain vigilant as rainfall is likely to intensify. District administrations are coordinating safety measures, with the Kasaragod administration declaring a holiday on Tuesday for educational institutions, including professional colleges, tuition centers, anganwadis, and madrasas, while model residential schools will stay open.
The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel, monitor local updates, and follow safety directives.
